JERUSALEM, March 4 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli Border Police officer and two soldiers were injured in a suspected car-ramming attack in northern Israel on Sunday, the police said.

The incident took place in Acre, a mixed Jewish-Arab city in Israel's northern coast.

A police spokesman told Xinhua the police are "investigating the possibility that the incident was a terror attack."

A video footage from a CCTV showed a fast driving jeep hitting the Border Police officer and driving on the sidewalk, hitting two soldiers.

Local media reported that the driver was shot by one of the troops before he the driver ran over him.

A statement released by the emergency medical service said the three troops, all men in their twenties, sustained light injuries and were taken to a hospital.

The driver sustained serious wounds and was in a critical condition, the medical service said.

The incident comes amidst a resurging wave of violence between Israel and the Palestinians, triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Enditem
