CHICAGO, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Two people were shot at a Central Michigan University residence hall in Mt. Pleasant Tuesday morning, Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.

Michigan State Police has confirmed the news, saying the gunman remains at large.

The shooting happened near the 4th floor of Campbell Hall, a co-ed residence building. Classes have been canceled and students have been told to shelter in place and avoid the area.

CM Life, the university's student newspaper tweeted that they spoke to an officer on the scene and were told the alleged shooter is still on the premises.

According to the City of Mt. Pleasant Twitter account, the suspect is a black male and considered armed and dangerous.

Central Michigan University is a public research university located in Mount Pleasant in the U.S. state of Michigan. Enditem
