2nd LD Writethru: Explosion rocks Afghan capital, injuring 4

KABUL, March 2 (Xinhua) -- At least four civilians were injured in an explosion ripping through a main road in eastern side of Kabul, capital of Afghanistan on Friday, an official said.

The blast occurred in Qabil Bai area along Kabul-Jalalabad road roughly at 08:50 a.m. local time after explosives in a vehicle belonged to a foreign forces' contractor company detonated, Najib Danish, spokesman of Interior Ministry, tweeted.

He said four passerby civilians were shifted to nearby hospitals by ambulances and police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.

The capital city with a population of nearly 5 million has been hit by series of terror attacks over the past couple of years.

On Feb. 24, one civilian and two security forces were killed and six people injured in a suicide attack at a diplomatic district in central Kabul. Enditem
