2nd LD: 2 kids shot injured in Houston drive-by shooting, 1 critical

Xinhua,March 02, 2018 Adjust font size:

HOUSTON, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Two children were injured in a drive-by shooting Thursday evening while their mother was in a nail salon, about 6 km south of downtown Houston, the U.S. state of Texas.

According to Houston Police Department (HPD), an 8-year-old boy was shot in the head and a 5-year-old girl was shot in the leg after a suspect, or suspects, fired multiple rounds at the car the children were in.

The boy is in critical condition. There was a third child in the car, and was not hurt in the shooting.

HPD Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner told reporters in a press briefing that there was little known about the suspect and the vehicle.

"I would say by the number of bullets, multiple shots, it's probably targeted but that's going to be part of the investigation," Finner said.

The shooting occurred just a few blocks away from another shooting which happened Thursday afternoon. It is unknown if the two shooting cases are connected.

"Those who don't want to listen and just think we're going to stand by and let our streets become bloodbaths, they've got another thing coming," Finner said. "Because the majority of the people in this city are good people." Enditem
