Armenia annuls peace agreement with Turkey

YEREVAN, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The so-called Zurich protocols between Armenia and Turkey were declared null and void Thursday by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan during a national security meeting, the presidential spokesman told Armenian TV Yerkir Media.

In October 2009, Armenia and Turkey signed the protocols on the establishment of diplomatic relations and border opening in Zurich with the mediation of Switzerland, after century-long hostility since the World War I mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks.

However, Turkey has been reluctant to ratify the accord.

At the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly last September, the Armenian president vowed to scrap the agreement if Turkey does not move to approve it by the spring of 2018. Enditem
