TRIPOLI, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Thursday said that violence in Libya killed 13 civilians and injured 133 others during February.
"From February 1 to February 28, 2018, the UNSMIL documented 146 civilian casualties, including 13 deaths and 133 injuries, during the conduct of hostilities across Libya," the Mission said in a report.
Improvised explosive devices, gunfire, explosive remnants of war, and shelling caused the majority of the casualties, the report explained.
The report warned the conflict parties against attacks that are expected to cause incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects.
"Such attacks amount to war crimes that can be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court," the report said.
Since the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime, Libya has been plagued with escalating violence and unrest, as well as political division. Enditem
