French shares drop 1.09 pct on Thursday

PARIS, March 1 (Xinhua) -- French shares lost on Thursday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 down 1.09 percent, or 57.93 points, to close at 5,262.56 points.

A total of 37 of the 40 selected large companies lost in the day.

French retail giant Carrefour tumbled 6.02 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer was down 3.83 percent. French multinational advertising and public relations company Publicis Groupe edged down 3.45 percent.

French company producing ophthalmic lenses, Essilor Intl. advanced 4.87 percent, the top gainer of the day. French multinational automobile manufacturer Peugeot gained 4.49 percent. French multinational car manufacturer Renault was up 0.58 percent. Enditem
