Local politician escapes bomb attack, 2 guards dead in Afghan province

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, March 1 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bomb hit a local politicians' vehicle in Afghanistan's northern province of Faryab, leaving two of his guards dead and two others wounded, local police said Thursday.

The incident happened early Thursday morning, in Kamangar area of Andkhoy district, where the vehicle carrying Mohammad Qul, member of Junbush-e-Millie Islami Party and a former jihadi commander, was hit by a roadside bomb, press office of 707 Pamir Police Zone said in a statement, adding that Qul escaped unhurt.

The bombing was the latest in a string of targetted attacks against Afghan local leaders and chieftains. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident. Enditem
