Spain's home mortgages rise 9.7 pct on average in 2017

MADRID, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The number of mortgages granted to prospective buyers on average in 2017 rose by 9.7 percent when compared with a year earlier, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Wednesday.
A total of 310,096 home mortgages were granted in 2017, with the average value per mortgage rising by 6.3 percent in 2017 to 116,709 euros (142,515 U.S dollars), while the amount of capital loaned increased by 16.6 percent reaching 36.19 billion euros.
Spain's home mortgages have been rising for four consecutive years after having fallen seven years in a row due to the economic crisis and the burst of the housing bubble.
Among Spanish regions, Andalusia registered the highest number of home mortgages in 2017 with 60,240, followed by Madrid and Catalonia with 56,644 and 49,918.
Big annual rises in home mortgages were registered in La Rioja, Madrid, and Asturias with increases of 18.4 percent, 16.6 percent, and 12.4 percent.
On a month-to-month basis, Spain's home mortgages fell by 16.9 percent from November to December, with the amount of capital loaned falling by 21.7 percent. Enditem
