MOGADISHU, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Somali National Army (SNA) on Wednesday captured Moqokori, a very strategic town in Hiraan region in central Somalia where Al-Shabaab militants were in full control earlier, an official said.

"The Somali National Army took control of Moqokori town and other villages nearby in an operation this morning. There was no resistance from the militants and it was a successful operation. Our aim is to open to districts in this region," Ahmed Mohamed Taredisho, a Somali Army Commander in Hiraan region, confirmed to the reporters.

He added that they are committed to liberating more areas still under Al-Shabaab militants who have upped their attacks against the government.

Al-Shabaab militants have not commented on the latest capture of the key town in central Somalia. Enditem
