BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 0.26 points, or 0.01 percent to close at 1,830.13 points.

Some 12.07 billion shares worth 76.94 billion baht (about 2.45 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Wednesday. Benchmark indices extended losses again due to continued selling pressure in private banks and trimming of gains in Infosys.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,184.04, down 162.35 points, or 0.47 percent, compared to its previous close at 34,346.39.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,856.20 down 15.26 points or 0.82 percent, and the Emas was at 13,218.25 down 130.71 points or 0.98 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks closed down on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) dropping 0.63 percent, or 22.45 points, to close at 3,517.94.

The STI index closed down 0.43 percent, or 15.46 points, to close at 3,540.39 Tuesday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 128.05 points on Wednesday, up 0.76 points or 0.6 percent against the previous trading session.

About 61.735 million shares worth some 950.338 billion Vietnamese dong (some 42.3 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, an increase of 19.3 percent in volume and 9.8 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 423.94 points, or 1.36 percent, to 30,844.721 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,703.9 and 31,061.76. Turnover totaled 135.3 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 17.28 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,121.54 points on Wednesday, up 1.93 points, or 0.17 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 232.585 million shares worth 7.853 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (349.6 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 132 stocks went up, 156 stocks fell down, while 51 stocks remained unchanged.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday bringing an end to a three-day winning streak as new Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's congressional testimony sparked concerns about more rapid interest rate hikes and higher U.S. inflation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 321.62 points, or 1.44 percent, from Tuesday to finish the day at 22,068.24.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.36 percent lower on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 117.09 points to 8,475.29. The all-share index went down by 35.79 points, or 0.70 percent, to 5,082.94.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 28.78 points, or 1.17 percent, to settle at 2,427.36. Trading volume stood at 362.32 million shares worth 6.88 trillion won (6.36 billion U.S. dollars).
