HONG KONG, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The economy of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region grew by 3.8 percent last year, an official said here on Wednesday.
Due to the better-than-expected outturn in the external environment, the figure was higher than the forecast in last year's budget and the average trend growth rate of 2.9 percent over the decade from 2007 to 2016, said Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po while delivering Hong Kong's annual budget.
The latest unemployment rate dropped to a 20-year low of 2.9 percent, he said.
The headline inflation rate for 2017 was 1.5 percent as inflationary pressure remained moderate, and netting out the effects of the government's one-off measures, the underlying inflation rate was 1.7 percent in 2017, the sixth consecutive year of easing, he said. Enditem
