BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.13 percent, at 3,292.07 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.81 percent lower at 10,807.53 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at a near one-month high as investor sentiment was lifted by U.S. shares advancing overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 236.23 points, or 1.07 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,389.86, marking its highest closing level since Feb. 1.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.53 points, or 0.88 percent, to end at 1,790.34.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 229.94 points, or 0.73 percent, to 31,268.66 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 31,141.52 and 31,798.979. Turnover totaled 137.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 17.57 billion U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved down 3.79 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 1,830.39 points.

Some 15.92 billion shares worth 103.68 billion baht (about 3.32 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Tuesday.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,346.39, down 99.36 points, or 0.29 percent, compared to its previous close at 33,445.75.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 44.25 points, or 0.68 percent, to a level of 6,598.92 on Tuesday.

Some 416,222 transactions were booked, involving 20.4 billion copies of shares with a value of 8.7 trillion rupiah (about 636 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed down on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 0.43 percent or 15.46 points to close at 3540.39.

A total of 2.52 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.62 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.23 billion U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,871.46 up 11.38 points or 0.61 percent, and the Emas was at 13,348.96 up 64.04 points or 0.48 percent.

Turnover increase to 2.76 billion shares valued at 2.89 billion ringgit Malaysia (739.13 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.72 billion shares valued at 2.74 billion ringgit Malaysia (700.76 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 127.29 points on Tuesday, up 1.1 points or 0.88 percent against the previous trading session.

About 51.731 million shares worth some 865.567 billion Vietnamese dong (some 61.8 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 42.2 percent in volume and 60.4 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,119.61 points on Tuesday, up 5.08 points, or 0.46 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 196.673 million shares worth 6.241 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (278.06 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 1,106.09 points, up 6.38 points or 0.58 percent.

A total of 81.120 million shares worth 4.025 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND)(179.34 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Tuesday.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended slightly lower Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 1.51 points, or 0.06 percent, to settle at 2,456.14. Trading volume stood at 267.03 million shares worth 5.53 trillion won (5.16 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.09 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 92.40 points to 8,592.38. The all-share index went up by 52.35 points, or 1.03 percent, to 5,118.73.

Trading volume reached 3.55 billion shares worth 9.25 billion pesos (178.48 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Tuesday down 2.82 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 27.10 points to reach 934.43 points after closing.

A total of 421,500 shares worth about 2.25 billion Lao kip (nearly 272,343 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Tuesday, with the financial sector and healthcare stocks driving the action.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 14.70 points or 0.24 percent at 6,056.90, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 13.20 points or 0.21 percent at 6,159.30.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 0.16 point, or 0.05 percent, to close at 341.16 points.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Tuesday at 5,798 points, up 23.86 points from Monday's finish.
