Nigeria's ruling party to hold key meeting ahead 2019 polls

Xinhua,February 27, 2018 Adjust font size:

LAGOS, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to chair the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday ahead of the party's National Convention slated for Abuja, the nation's capital.

The meeting will discuss national issues, the crisis within the party and also take a decision on when its National Convention will be held.

Buhari had appointed Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos, to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts toward improving cohesion within the APC.

The assignment will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the federation.

The national convention usually provides an avenue for the party to ratify its policies and programs; elect or remove members and amend its constitution, among other things.

Nigeria is scheduled to hold general elections in February 2019. Enditem
