Indian film star drowns in bathtub after passing out: police

DUBAI, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A-rated Bollywood actress Sridevi Kapoor, aged 54, drowned in her hotel bathtub Saturday after passing out, Dubai police said Monday.

Traces of alcohol were found in her body, the police said via Twitter.

Her death case will be referred to Dubai Public Prosecution, "as part of ordinary law enforcement procedures," Dubai daily Gulf news reported, citing "a chief prosecutor."

The death of the actress, known as Sridevi, has left Indians in shock, prompting an outpouring of grief across the nation.

"Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

"She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances," Modi added. Enditem
