GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- An Afghan police officer has been killed following a Taliban insurgents' ambush attack in eastern province of Ghazni, a local official said Saturday.

"Yahya Faqeri, who served as finance deputy of provincial police department, was killed in a Taliban ambush attack on Friday afternoon in Khwaja Omari district," provincial government spokesman Aref Noori told Xinhua.

The assailants also seized a police car after the attack in the restive province.

Taliban has claimed the responsibility for the attack, the latest in a string of targeted attacks against Afghan officials and security force members.

The Taliban militants, who ruled the country before being ousted in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, killing government troops as well as civilians. Enditem
