RABAT, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan authorities seized on Friday a total of 1.34 tons of cannabis near the northern town of Chefchaouen.
The banned substance was packed in 46 packages on board of a car, according to local authorities.
The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, who were on the car, the same source said, adding that an investigation is underway to identify possible accomplices.
Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis farming in the past decade, Morocco remains the world's largest cannabis resin harvester.
According to the 2016 report by the UN's Office on Drugs and Crime, Morocco ranks first among 129 cannabis producing countries throughout the period from 2009 to 2014, followed by Afghanistan, Lebanon and India. Enditem
