Gun battle kills 7 in N. Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Five militants affiliated with the Taliban group and two Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed and four others wounded following a clash in the country's troubled northern Kunduz province, a local official said Friday.

The wounded included two insurgents and two local police personnel.

A group of armed militants attacked an ALP checkpoint early Friday morning, in Kunjak area of Imam Sahib district, resulting in the death of five militants and two ALP personnel, Mahbobullah Sayedi, the district chief told Xinhua.

The gun fight lasted for about an hour.

The Taliban militants are yet to make comment. Enditem
