ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Djibouti on Friday hosted legislative elections with officials hailing the peaceful manner of the process.

Prime Minister Abdoulkader Mohamed said Djiboutian politicians have carried out their campaigns peacefully, avoiding provocative verbal language that could lead to violence.

The prime minister noted that all stages of the electoral process have been done in a transparent and calm manner.

According to an AU statement on Thursday, the prime minister has welcomed AU's initiative to send a strong delegation to observe the elections in Djibouti.

The 38-member AU observation mission, led by Anicet-Georges Dologuele, former Prime Minister of the Central African Republic (CAR), has been deployed across the Horn of African nation.

He also saluted the initiative of President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti for declaring the quota of 25 percent to encourage women's participation in the legislative elections.

"Of the 65 parliamentarians, women will henceforth occupy 17 seats in the National Assembly and in the near future gender parity will improve," the prime minister said. Enditem
