Canada's Serwa bags women's ski cross gold at PyeongChang Games

PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Kelsey Serwa claimed the gold medal of women's ski cross at the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games here on Friday.

Serwa outclassed compatriot Brittany Phelan and Swiss skier Fanny Smith in the event's big final to first cross the finish line.

"It is very cool. It is very surreal to be the best in the world at something you put your heart into," said Serwa.

It was Canada's 25th and 26th medal at PyeongChang 2018, matching the National Olympic Committee's single Winter Games record, set in Vancouver in 2010.

Canada was the only NOC to win more than one gold medal in freestyle skiing at these Winter Games.

Serwa, who took silver in Sochi four years ago, became the first athlete with multiple medals in men's and women's ski cross at the Winter Games.

"I have an amazing support team around me who, from my head to my body, made sure everything was good. Our skis were rockets today," said Serwa. Enditem
