MADRID, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Villarreal defender Ruben Semedo was sent to prison without bail by a judge in Valencia on Thursday to face charges of attempted homicide, illegal possession of arms, robbery with violence, threatening behaviors and assault.
The 23 year-old, who signed for Villarreal for around 15 million euros last summer, was detained at his home on Tuesday after being denounced by the alleged victim, who suffered a broken ankle in the incident, which was originally reported to police on February 12th.
Local newspaper 'Las Provincias' reported on Tuesday that Semedo and two accomplices, one of whom was the player's cousin, kept the victim tied up in Semedo's home, threatening him with pistols, before assaulting him and stealing the keys to his flat in Valencia.
This is the latest incident in the former Portugal Under-21 international's brief but so far controversial spell in Spain, where he has made just four league appearances.
He was previously detained in November 2017 for a presumed crime of threats to and mistreatment of a companion outside of a nightclub in Valencia, and he has also been accused of hitting another person over the head with a beer bottle in the car park of another Valencia nightclub. Enditem
