ROME, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Italy's industrial turnover last year posted the highest annual increase since 2011, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) on Thursday.

The average annual industrial turnover rose by 5.1 percent in value (against 6.8 percent in 2011), while industrial orders grew by 6.6 percent. The manufacturing industry alone increased its sales by 3.3 percent in volume last year.

ISTAT also stated the industrial turnover in December grew for the third consecutive month, rising by 2.5 percent against November, and by 7.2 percent compared to Dec. 2016.

Industrial sales grew on average by 2.9 percent between October and December compared to the previous three months (2.6 percent in domestic market and 3.5 percent in non-domestic markets), according to the agency.

The seasonally-adjusted new industrial orders grew overall by 6.5 percent in December against November, and, more specifically, by 7.6 percent in the domestic market and 5.1 percent in international ones.

Considering the last quarter in 2017, it grew by 3.6 percent compared to the previous three months.

Finally, new industrial orders showed an unadjusted 6.9-percent growth in December against the same month in 2016, according to ISTAT. Enditem
