TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran and the Netherlands have expressed readiness to foster closer political and economic ties, Iran's Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

The announcement was made after a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his visiting Dutch counterpart Sigrid Kaag in the capital Tehran.

During their meeting, Zarif and Kaag exchanged views on a range of political issues, including the ongoing situation in Yemen and Syria.

The talks also covered the expansion of the bilateral economic ties, particularly the cooperation in the sectors of oil and gas as well as banking.

For her part, Kaag expressed her country's willingness to establish closer cooperation with Iranian companies.

The Dutch minister also highlighted the Netherlands' support to the Iranian nuclear deal, internationally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), saying Amsterdam remains committed to its full implementation. Enditem
