LAGOS, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least ten people on Thursday lost their lives in an auto crash in northwest Nigeria's Jigawa state, an official said.

The incident, which happened around Majiya town in Taura area, involved a Sharon bus and a Toyota Hilux van, Adamu Shehu, a spokesperson for Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), told reporters in Dutse, the state capital.

Shehu said the cause of the accident had yet to be ascertained.

Nigeria records high fatality rates for road accidents mainly due to shoddy highways, poorly maintained vehicles and violation of traffic rules. Enditem
