JAKARTA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's canoe team will compete in an international tournament in Sydney, Australia next month, the team's coach said here on Thursday.

A total of 24 Indonesian canoe athletes will take part in the Sydney International Tournament, which is scheduled to be held from March 19-25, according to the head coach of the Indonesian canoe team Boudwijn van Optsal.

"We have practiced hard and we will know our position after participating in this tournament," he said.

Scores of canoe athletes will take part in the event, along with opponents from China's Hong Kong, Japan and Vietnam.

After participating in the tournament in Australia, the Indonesian canoe team will undergo training in Europe for three months, in an effort to boost preparation for the Asian Games this year, the coach said.

In the Asian Games, canoe events will be comprised of 15 numbers including 8 for men and 7 for women, according to the Asian Games organizing committee. The tournament will be held in Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang city, the provincial capital of South Sumatra. Enditem
