BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.17 percent, at 3,268.56 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.18 percent higher at 10,658.94 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 0.65 point, or 0.19 percent, to close at 341.32 points.

A total of 1,540 shares worth 5.38 million riel (1,340 U.S. dollars) were traded.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as the minutes of the Federal Reserve's January meeting suggesting more interest rate hikes this year reignited concerns about the effects of higher U.S. Treasury yields.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 234.37 points, or 1.07 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,736.44.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 15.37 points, or 0.63 percent, to settle at 2,414.28. Trading volume stood at 344.87 million shares worth 4.85 trillion won (4.48 billion U.S. dollars).
