NAIROBI, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Kenya's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday appeared to renounce its own policy on career credentials, declaring that promotions will henceforth be based on productivity and not academic qualifications.

The new stand deals a blow to over 30,000 teachers who have acquired higher academic qualifications since 2014 hoping to earn promotions. The teachers' employer further added that teachers who have higher credentials would be given opportunities to head schools but only on merit and not mere academic papers. (Daily Nation)

-- Over 3.4 million Kenyans face death from starvation due to an acute food shortage that has hit at least 14 counties. (The Star).

-- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta's dream of creating 11 million jobs through industrialization is yet to be achieved three years after he made the promise. Among other things, Kenya is yet to market its premium crops tea and coffee as Kenyan, a move that would have doubled the value. (The Standard)
