Xinhua,February 22, 2018 Adjust font size:

ABUJA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's aviation authorities on Wednesday opened an investigation into a passenger plane overshooting the runway in the southern city of Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The Accident Investigation Bureau, a government agency, is investigating the incident.

The Boeing, operated by local airline Dana Air, was damaged after overshooting the runway while landing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday afternoon. All the 49 people on board were safely evacuated.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria had said the mishap could have been caused by a heavy rain accompanied by strong wind and storm.

The runway was temporarily shut and reopened after inspection. Enditem
