LIMA -- The number of deaths from a bus crash on Wednesday near Arequipa in southern Peru has climbed to 44.

The regional head of police, General Walter Ortiz, said that in an interview that 43 had died at the site of the crash, after the bus tumbled down a 200-meter ravine, while one person died in a nearby hospital.(Peru-Accident-Deaths)

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Wednesday that deputies last Friday thwarted a student's plot to open fire at El Camino High School in Whittier, 30 kilometers east of the Los Angeles downtown, just two days after the fatal mass shooting occurred in Florida.

- - - -h ADEN, Yemen -- Airstrikes launched by fighter jets of the Saudi-led coalition hit a vehicle in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz on Wednesday, killing at least five civilians, a military official told Xinhua.

ISLAMABAD -- The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to be chief of the country's ruling party, saying that a person who is not eligible to hold a public office cannot head a party.

According to a copy of the verdict issued by the court, a three-member bench of the court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar gave the decision while hearing petitions against the Elections Act 2017 passed by the parliament, which paved the way for Sharif to resume his position as chief of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) following his disqualification from the public office last year.(Pakistan-Nawaz Sharif-Disqualification) Enditem
