KHARTOUM, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday relieved its Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid and appointed Faisal Hassan Ibrahim in his place.
The NCP Leadership Office on Wednesday concluded a prolonged meeting, chaired by the President of the Republic and NCP Chairman Omar al-Bashir.
"The leadership office registered a voice of thanks for Eng. Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, the former NCP deputy chairman, and I was assigned for the post," Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, the appointed NCP deputy chairman, told reporters late Wednesday evening.
The limited change in the leadership of the ruling party is expected to result in a cabinet reshuffle, namely with the regard to the ruling party's portfolios in the government.
Faisal Hassan Ibrahim has been serving as Minister of Decentralized Governance in the current government.
The ruling party used to usually appoint the party deputy chairman as Assistant to the President. Enditem
