ISLAMABAD -- The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to be chief of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying that all the decisions made by him as the party chief would also stand null and void, local media reported.

According to the local Urdu Dunya TV, a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, gave the decision against the Elections Act 2017 passed by the parliament, which paved the way for Sharif to resume his position as party chief following his disqualification from the public office. YANGON -- Two women were killed and 11 others injured in a bomb blast near Yoma bank and AYA bank in Lashio, Myanmar's Shan state on Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from the country's Information Ministry.

The explosion hit Yoma bank, affecting nearby AYA bank at 04:30 p.m. local time with window glass smashed and cars parking nearby destroyed. (Myanmar-Blast)

HONG KONG -- A total of 582 people have been arrested in Hong Kong in a 19-day special operation against cross-boundary smuggling activities before and during the Lunar New Year, the Customs of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) announced on Wednesday.

The HKSAR government's Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) started on Feb. 1 the special operation at airport, seaport, land boundary, railway and ferry control points in a bid to combat smuggling and other illegal activities through passenger and cargo channels. (Hong Kong-Smuggling)
