Houston launches redesigned website with automatic translation in Chinese

HOUSTON, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- America's fourth most populous city Houston Tuesday launched an improved website with an automatic translation feature for more than 100 languages, including both simplified and traditional Chinese.

"Almost half a million people access the city's website each month. I want visitors, residents and businesses to have the best experience possible when engaging with the city online," Sylvester Turner, mayor of Houston, said.

Houston in Texas is the only city among the 10 most populous ones in the United States that has translations for many of its most-accessed webpages. The redesign was accomplished with in-house resources.

According to the mayor's office, the city is also launching a new web governance policy in the coming weeks to ensure the content is updated regularly.

"We are making every effort to establish the City of Houston as a global leader in technology and innovation," Turner said.

Turner led a large trade delegation to China in December to explore opportunities for further cooperation in trade and investment. Enditem
