DHAKA -- Bangladesh Monday formally entered 4G era as the country's telecom regulator issued licences to four operators, paving the way for launching the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications services.

TOKYO -- A mayor in western Japan turned in his resignation after receiving a harsh backlash for threatening to kill a reporter, local media said Monday.

Takeshi Imamura, mayor of Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, was set to serve until his current term ended in May, but tendered his resignation to assembly chairman Masatake Tanaka, abruptly halting his tenure. (Japan-Mayor-Resignation)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- The bodies of nine civilians abducted by the Islamic State (IS) group from Kot district of the eastern Nangarhar province 18 months ago have been found, spokesman for provincial government Attaullah Khogiani said Monday.

"The terrorist group abducted a dozen people including tribal elders from Seh Paye area of Kot district 18 months ago but the bodies of nine of the victims buried in a mass grave in Momandara area of Achin district were found very recently," Khogiani told reporters here. (Afghanistan-IS-Abduction)

COLOMBO -- The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday ended days of political uncertainty in the country, saying it would continue to be a part of the unity government to push for "major changes" within the government.

SLFP Parliamentarian and Minister of Social Empowerment, S.B. Dissanayake said the SLFP decided to remain in the government and end the uncertainty over the future of SLFP and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's United National Party (UNP) unity government. (Sri Lanka-Unity Gov't) Enditem
