MAPUTO -- At least 17 people were killed and several others were injured in a landslide in a garbage dump on the outskirts of the Mozambican capital Maputo due to heavy rain on early Monday morning.

The victims living around the Hulene garbage dump were asleep when the rain caused the garbage to collapse and bury their houses. (Mozambique-Landslide)

GENEVA -- Two people were swept away by an avalanche that broke out Sunday in the Swiss part of the Alps in the canton of Valais, local police said late Sunday afternoon.

At the beginning the local police said that "a dozen people" had been carried away in the incident, which occurred at 2,500 meters altitude at the Fenestral pass in the Finhaut region. (Switzerland-Avalanche)

MOSCOW -- Authorities in Russia said Monday they didn't rule out the possibility that Sunday's fatal shooting incident in the country's predominantly Muslim Republic of Dagestan was a terrorist attack.

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- The bodies of nine civilians abducted by the Islamic State (IS) group from Kot district of the eastern Nangarhar province 18 months ago have been found, spokesman for provincial government Attaullah Khogiani said Monday.

"The terrorist group abducted a dozen people including tribal elders from Seh Paye area of Kot district 18 months ago but the bodies of nine of the victims buried in a mass grave in Momandara area of Achin district were found very recently," Khogiani told reporters here. (Afghanistan-IS-Abduction)

BAGHDAD -- Up to 27 members of paramilitary Hashd Shaabi fighters were killed in an ambush by Islamic State (IS) militants near the town of Hawijah in Kirkuk province, a Hashd Shaabi statement said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when a force of Hashd Shaabi force were ambushed by a terrorist militants disguised in military uniforms in Hawijah area, in the southwestern part of the oil-rich Kirkuk province, the statement said. (Iraq-IS-Conflict) Enditem
