11 IS militants killed in fresh airstrike in Afghanistan

KABUL, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 militants of Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed after the Afghan air force struck their positions in eastern Nangarhar province, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The air raid struck IS militants' hideouts in Achin district on late Sunday, leaving 11 members of the terror group dead, the ministry tweeted.

Two weapons and ammunition caches were also destroyed following the attack, it said.

The Afghan security forces, alongside U.S. and NATO-led coalition forces, have increased ground and air offensives against militants in the last few months as the militants keep attacking government interests across the country.

The IS group, which emerged in Nangarhar in early 2015, has yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
