MOSCOW, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- An unidentified gunman opened fire during a celebration of Russia's traditional holiday Maslenitsa at a church in the town of Kizlyar in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, killing at least four women and injuring a number of others, local media reported Sunday.

Policemen and security members were among those wounded, Interfax news agency cited an informed source as saying.

The attacker was reportedly eliminated on the spot.

According to the source, there were originally two attackers, a husband and a wife, but the woman had fled before the man started shooting.

Maslenitsa is one of Russia's most important religious holidays, which is celebrated during the eighth week before the Orthodox Easter. Enditem
