Asylum seekers from Afghanistan, supporters demonstrate in Finland

HELSINKI, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Several demonstrations against deporting Afghani asylum seekers are taking place in Finland over the weekend.

A gathering of 400 people in the Narinka Square in central Helsinki on Saturday met with a counter demonstration nearby, and conflicting words were exchanged loud.

The organizer of the demonstration, the network of Afghan asylum seekers, complained in a press release they did not get enough protection from the police.

Similar demonstrations are scheduled on Sunday in four other cities in Finland.

The demonstrations across Finland are part of a Europe-wide campaign to block repatriations to Afghanistan. Enditem
