BEIJING -- An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale jolted 4km S of Pinotepa de Don Luis, Mexico at 23:39:37 GMT on Fri (2018-02-17 07:39:37 Beijing Time), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 16.372 degrees north latitude and 97.911 degrees west longitude. (Earthquake-Mexico)

BERLIN -- Germany and Italy will continue to demand a redistribution of refugees in the European Union despite heavy resistance from some member states, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told press on Friday during a meeting with her Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni.

Both countries were "entirely on the same page" with regards to plans for a new European asylum system agreed in 2016, Merkel emphasized. (Germany-Italy-Refugee)

RAMALLAH -- A total of 40 Palestinian demonstrators were wounded in clashes with Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on Friday afternoon, local sources said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesman of Gaza Health Ministry, told reporters that 23 Palestinians were shot and wounded during clashes on the borders between eastern Gaza and Israel. (Palestinian-Israeli-Conflict)

ANKARA -- Turkey and the United States have agreed to surmount their differences on Syria during a critical visit of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Ankara amid tension between the NATO allies, but experts said that there is no miracle solutions to resolve quickly the strained ties.
