TUNIS, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian authorities announced Thursday the start of the candidacy submission for the municipal elections scheduled for May 6.
The submission will continue until Feb. 22, said the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (ISIE) of Tunisia.
About 70 percent of the total population, or 5.3 million registered voters, are entitled to vote, with 47 percent of voters being women, according to ISIE figures.
Meanwhile, 37 percent of the voters are more than 41 years old, and 33 percent between 18 and 35.
Among those registered on the electoral lists for the Tunisian municipal elections, 0.67 percent are soldiers and security agents, who will vote on April 29.
"The organizational and logistical aspect is ready," said ISIE President Mohamed Tlili Mansri. "These municipal elections would be a historic moment and a turning point in the history of the new Tunisia."
The ISIE has recruited 1,300 electoral agents in the 27 regional authorities across 24 provinces in the country. Enditem
