U.S. industrial output drops in January

Xinhua,February 16, 2018 Adjust font size:

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. industrial output fell in January, dragged by the decline in mining output.

Industrial production edged down 0.1 percent in January after rising four consecutive months, said the Federal Reserve on Thursday.

The decline was due to the sharp drop in mining output which fell 1 percent in the month. Manufacturing output remained unchanged, indicating a weak start for the sector at this year.

Capacity utilization, a measure of how fully industries are deploying their resources, dropped 0.2 percentage point to 77.5 percent, 2.3 percentage points lower than its long-run average. Enditem
