CAPE TOWN, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are news items in South African major news outlets on Thursday.

-- The resignation of Jacob Zuma as South African president on Wednesday night means that a planned motion of no confidence scheduled to have been debated in the National Assembly on Thursday afternoon falls away.

But it's set to expedite Parliamentary processes to elect Cyril Ramaphosa as the country's fifth president instead. (Eyewitness News)

-- President Jacob Zuma's resignation was not a "willing stepping-down", only a "protracted struggle from within the African National Congress (ANC) and its alliance (which) has finally dislodged this president gone wrong", the South African Communist Party (SACP) said on Thursday.

The SACP said it was proud of the role it had played from within the alliance and the ANC caucus, adding that the "belated resignation" was something that "should have happened a long time ago". (News24)

-- Officials in Parliament are preparing for the swearing-in of the new president of South Africa on Thursday following the resignation of Jacob Zuma.
