OSCE considers premature correction of Minsk agreements on Donbas

MINSK, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Martin Sajdik, the OSCE's special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, said on Wednesday it is premature to amend the Minsk agreements on Donbas in connection with proposals for the introduction of peacekeepers to Donbas.

"I think it's really too early to talk about this, because there is so far only this proposal from the Russian Federation - the draft resolution. We do not know anything else," Sajdik told reporters in Minsk.

The Minsk process is working and bringing results, the diplomat stressed.

"I personally think that the Minsk agreements are very strong and stable. And most importantly, when there is the UN mission, its goal should be precisely an embodiment of the Minsk agreements," Sajdik said.

The subgroup for humanitarian issues discussed taking necessary steps in preparation for the next round of the exchange of detained persons, he said.

The next meeting of the Contact Group will be held in Minsk on Feb. 28.

The war in Donbas in east Ukraine broke out in March 2014 between government and separatist forces, and there have been dozens of ceasfires after the conflict started out. Enditem
