Struggling WBA's Chinese owner fires chairman, CEO in boardroom clear-out

LONDON, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese owner of bottom-of-the-table English Premier League club West Bromwich Albion has fired the chairman and CEO in a boardroom clear-out.

More than 50 points behind table toppers Manchester City, WBA has won just 3 of its 27 matches.

The club, owned by Chinese businessman Lai Guochuan, and based in the Midlands region of England, confirmed the move Tuesday on its official website.

The statement said: "Chairman John Williams and Chief Executive Martin Goodman have been given notice of termination of their contracts and have been placed on garden leave with immediate effect."

Speaking to media in Britain, Williams admitted responsibility, "It is an odd feeling, it's certainly unusual. We had gone through a managerial change but it's a results-based game and I accept my part in that. As top of the managerial tree, you have to take responsibility." Enditem
