BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.45 percent, at 3,199.16 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.67 percent higher at 10,431.91 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.11 percent to close at 1,646.77 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday despite making gains in early trade, as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar dented investor sentiment and dragged exporter issues and the broader market lower.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 90.51 points, or 0.43 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,154.17, marking its lowest close since Oct. 12.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.06 points, or 0.82 percent, to finish at 1,702.72.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 676.070 points, or 2.27 percent, to 30,515.6 points on Wednesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,968.541 and 30,637.229. Turnover totaled 110.60 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 14.14 billion U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 7.94 points, or 0.44 percent to close at 1,792.09 points.
Some 9.84 billion shares worth 49.56 billion baht (about 1.58 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Wednesday.
Benchmark indices extended losses in late trade as broader markets continued to outperform.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) broad index closed Wednesday at 6,102 points, up 13.94 points from Tuesday's finish.
Total turnover increased to about 6.21 billion takas (about 76.59 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday from about 5.04 billion takas (about 60.67 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed down on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.36 percent, or 12.21 points, to close at 3,402.86.
A total of 1.89 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.60 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.21 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 243 to 212.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,834.93, up 1.91 points or 0.10 percent, and the Emas was at 13,071.73, up 21.87 points or 0.17 percent.
Turnover increase to 1.93 billion shares valued at 1.99 billion ringgit Malaysia (506.36 million U.S. dollars), compared with 1.61 billion shares valued at 2.44 billion ringgit Malaysia (620.86 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.33 percent higher on Wednesday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 27.97 points to 8,598.11. The all-share index went up by 19.59 points, or 0.39 percent, to 5,072.80.
Trading volume reached 1.80 billion shares worth 8.92 billion pesos (171.80 million U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has finished weaker on Wednesday, with investors cautious ahead of key inflation data in the United States.
At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 14.70 points or 0.25 percent at 5,841.20 while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 17.00 points or 0.29 percent at 5,940.00.
