Cypriot President announces new cabinet following his re-election

NICOSIA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has formed a new Cabinet, retaining five of 11 ministers, following his re-election for a second term in a presidential runoff election on Feb. 4, a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

The new cabinet will take the oath on March 1, the day the new government will take office for a five-year term.

Government spokesman Nicos Christodoulides is taking on the Foreign Ministry, to succeed veteran Ioannis Kasoulides who is ending his political career.

Anastasiades appointed as his new spokesman Prodromos Prodromou, the former spokesman for ruling Democratic Rally party.

Five members of the previous cabinet including Finance Minister Harris Georgiades and Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourismis Yiorgos Lakkotrypis retained their positions.

At the same time, Savvas Angelides was appointed as Defence Minister, while Education Minister Costas Kadis is moving to the Ministry of Agriculture. Enditem
