Swedish cross-country skier Nilsson takes women's sprint classic gold in PyeongChang

PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Stina Nilsson of Sweden won the women's sprint classic gold in cross-country skiing at the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games here on Tuesday.
Following Tuesday's qualifications, quarterfinals and semifinals, Nilsson clocked a best time of 3 minutes and 3.84 seconds in a six-member final.
It was Sweden's first medal in this event, and Nilsson's second Olympic medal after her bronze in the team sprint at Sochi 2014.
"I feel very emotional and also very happy. I felt strong during the whole day so to be able to take the gold medal was fantastic.
"It means so much. I have worked so hard for this, so many years. It's been many ups and many downs and to take the gold medal today is something that I'm going to be proud of for the rest of my life," said Nilsson following her victory.
Norway's Maiken Caspersen Falla finished second, 3.03 seconds behind Nilsson. Olympic Athlete from Russia Yulia Belorukova was third in 3:07.21. Enditem
