LUSAKA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- Authorities in Zambia have strengthened the law against street vending and public nuisances by adding 33 new offences, bringing the total to 55.

Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga said the law has been strengthened following an outbreak of cholera mainly attributed to poor hygienic standards. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Konkola Copper Mines, a unit of London-listed Vedanta Resources Plc, says it plans to increase its annual copper production in Zambia to 500,000 tons due to huge investments by the parent company and current positive market fundamentals.

Steven Din, the firm's chief executive officer said investments of over 3 billion U.S. dollars on expansions and upgrades has set the mining firm in a strong position to step up production. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia's energy regulator has adjusted upwards the pump price of fuel, citing changes in two main variables that influence the price of the commodity.

The Energy Regulation Board says pump price of petrol has been increased to 13.75 Zambian Kwacha per liter from 12.97 Kwacha while that of fuel has been increased to 12.01 Kwacha per liter from 11.09 Kwacha due to rising international oil prices and the depreciation of the local currency.
