MOSCOW, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A fire, which started on the 15th floor of Moscow's Cosmos Hotel in the northeast of the Russian capital, has been successfully put off with no victims registered, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said Monday.

Firemen were alerted at 13:14 local time (1014 GMT) and firefighting units arrived at the scene seeing smoke coming from one of the windows on the 15th floor of the 25-floor hotel building. Some 230 people were evacuated from the building for security purposes, the ministry said.

The four-star hotel with 1,777 rooms overlooking the capital's main Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy area, was built for the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games by French and Soviet architects. Enditem
