BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades on Feb. 8, to congratulate him on his re-election as the head of state of Cyprus.

In the congratulatory message, Xi said China and Cyprus are enjoying solid political mutual trust, frequent people-to-people exchanges and fruitful cooperation.

China attaches great importance to the development of relations with Cyprus and is willing to work with Cyprus to consolidate the traditional friendship between the two peoples, and strengthen pragmatic cooperation between the two sides in joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and in various fields, to promote bilateral relations to a higher level in the greater interest of the two countries and the two peoples, Xi said.

Anastasiades was re-elected to a second term in a presidential runoff on Feb. 4 against leftist candidate Stavros Malas. Enditem
