TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Saturday asked the United States to withdraw its forces from Syria.

The presence of U.S. forces in Syria is "illegitimate," Lieutenant Commander of the IRGC Brigadier General Hossein Salami told reporters.

Salami said that Washington should move its forces out of region before sustaining a defeat.

Asked about the military operation of Turkey against Kurdish militants in Syria, he said that Iran does not endorse the presence of any country in Syria unless the Syrian government agrees.

Iran has no military presence in Syria, he said. stressing that Iran provides only advisory assistance to the Syrian army as they are able to defend their own territory. Enditem
